My first experience with web design was freshman year of high school when I took a computer class just because I needed another elective. I thought it would be an easy A. I learned how to write HTML in Notepad and add music that played automatically (the most
I was definitely hooked, but it was still more of a hobby to me. I mean, I couldn’t really do this for a living, right?! When it came time to apply for college, I realized I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. I knew my local community college offered a Web Technologies program, so I figured I’d go with it and get a job at a restaurant until I discovered what I really wanted to do.
Turns out, that was the best decision I ever made. While in college I learned that I actually can do this for a living. I would get to use my imagination and build cool websites for people, and get paid for it!
Shortly after I graduated with my Associate’s degree, my high school sweetheart and I got married (I was 19 at the time). We picked up everything and moved from our small town in North Carolina to Anchorage, Alaska where we lived for the next 3 years. Yes, it was cold there and yes, I saw plenty of moose! (Everyone asks!). During that time I decided to go back to school for my Bachelor’s degree in Web Design.
We then moved to the D.C. area of Maryland, where we lived for another 3 years. I worked a retail job while finishing my degree. During this time I made a lot of mock websites trying to build my portfolio and show what I can do. Once I finished college in 2014 I realized that finding my first client was going to be difficult. People really don’t like giving their hard-earned money to a recent college grad with no experience who they found on the internet. Go figure! After writing about 1,000 proposals, I finally found someone who took a chance on me, and the rest is history.
We now live in Dover, Delaware with our brand new baby boy, our two goofy pit bulls Shelby and Boss, and our crazy cat Cash. I’m freelancing full time and couldn’t be happier. I do online courses, watch instructional YouTube videos, and take every opportunity I can to learn more about my craft. I’m always up for a challenge, as it’s a guaranteed way for me to learn and grow.
Building attractive and functional websites for small businesses is what I love to do. I enjoy working with people who are as passionate about their business as I am about mine! Let’s create something great! 🙂
